Econometric models of limit-order executions

چکیده
We develop and estimate an econometric model of limit-order execution times using survival analysis and actual limit-order data. We estimate versions for time-to-first-fill and time-to-completion for both buy and sell limit orders, and incorporate the effects of explanatory variables such as the limit price, limit size, bid/offer spread, and market volatility. Execution times are very sensitive to the limit price, but are not sensitive to limit size. Hypothetical limit-order executions, constructed either theoretically from first-passage times or empirically from transactions data, are very poor proxies for actual limit-order executions. r 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Econometric Modeling of Multivariate Irregularly-Spaced High-Frequency Data
The recent advent of high frequency data provides researchers with transaction by transaction level data. Examples include scanner data from grocery stores or financial transactions data. These new data sets allow researchers to take an unprecedented look at the underlying economic structure of the markets. Often the hypothesis of interest is in the context of multivariate time series data. Ana...
متن کاملM-testing Using Finite and Infinite Dimensional Parameter Estimators by Halbert White And
The m-testing approach provides a general and convenient framework in which to view and construct speci cation tests for econometric models. Previous m-testing frameworks only consider test statistics that involve nite dimensional parameter estimators and in nite dimensional parameter estimators a ecting the limit distribution of the m-test statistics. In this paper we propose a new m-testing f...
متن کاملOn model specification and parameter space definitions in higher order spatial econometric models
a r t i c l e i n f o Higher-order spatial econometric models that include more than one weights matrix have seen increasing use in the spatial econometrics literature. There are two distinct issues related to the specification of these extended models. The first issue is what form the higher-order spatial econometric model takes, i.e. higher-order polynomials in the spatial weights matrices vs...
متن کاملGraphical models, causal inference, and econometric models
A graphical model is a graph that represents a set of conditional independence relations among the vertices (random variables). The graph is often given a causal interpretation as well. I describe how graphical causal models can be used in an algorithm for constructing partial information about causal graphs from observational data that is reliable in the large sample limit, even when some of t...
متن کاملThe zero-information-limit condition and spurious inference in weakly identified models
In many econometric models the asymptotic variance of a parameter estimate depends on the value of another structural parameter in such a way that the data contain little information about the former when the latter is close to a critical value. This paper introduces the zero-information-limitcondition (ZILC) to identify such models where ‘weak identification’ leads to spurious inference. We fi...
